Gwen Cunningham leads the Circle Textiles Program at Circle Economy and is Coordinator of Sustainability at Amsterdam Fashion Institute. Having graduated from the National College of Art and Design as a fashion designer, Gwen moved to the Netherlands to pursue her interest in alternative fashion systems. Today, Gwen leads the Textiles Program at Circle Economy, an Amsterdam-based social enterprise focussed on the practical and scalable implementation of the circular economy.
The textiles industry is arguably the most lucrative, creative, consumer facing industry on earth, and therefore, Gwen believes it has the power to change the world. By collaborating to create a truly circular supply chain, Circle Economy’s textiles program aims to reclaim the human, economic, and natural value lost in today’s linear system. The Circle Textiles Program is focussed on developing the systems innovation necessary for this transition. Together with brands, collectors, sorters and recyclers, the Circle Textiles Program is producing the critical data, tools, technologies and business models that are needed to build a new foundation for a circular textiles industry.
